"RYTON, a parish in the Shiffnal division of Brimstree hundred, county Salop, 3½ miles S.E. of Shiffnal, its post town, and 3 from the Albrighton station. The village, which is small, is situated on the river Worf, and is chiefly agricultural. It had anciently a market, and gave title of baron to the Cravens, but the market and fair have long been discontinued. The soil is of a sandy nature, with a subsoil of red sandstone. The tithes have been commuted for a rent-charge of £445, and the glebe comprises 59 acres. The living is a rect* in the diocese of Lichfield, value £545. The church is a stone structure, with a tower containing three bells. The church, which has lately been restored, has an E. window. There is a National school for both sexes. R. H.
