"STAPLETON, a parish in the Condover division of Condover hundred, county Salop, 6 miles S.W. of Shrewsbury, its post town, and 1 mile from the Dorrington station on the Shrewsbury and Hereford line of railway. The village is situated on the road from Shrewsbury to Hereford, and on a branch of the river Severn. There is an embankment in the parish, supposed to have been formerly a Roman station. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Lichfield, value £581. The church, dedicated to St. Julian, or St. John, is an ancient structure, re-seated in 1790. There is an infant school for both sexes. The Hon. H.
