The following transcriptions of births, deaths, marriages and other selected material from the "Beccles and Bungay Weekly News" have been prepared by Janelle Penney from microfilm supplied by the British Library Newspaper Library.
The copyright of the images of the Beccles and Bungay Weekly News held by the British Library Newspaper Library is hereby acknowledged as the source of this material, and the source citation for each issue of the newspaper contains the phrase "From microfilm supplied by the British Library Newspaper Library." This acknowledgement should also be included in the source citation in any material which may be derived from these extracted entries.
From the issue of 21 April 1863 onwards, the full title of this newspaper was "Beccles and Bungay Weekly News and Suffolk, Norfolk and General Advertiser." For obvious reasons, the shortened form has been retained in the source citations! From the issue of 11 June 1867 inclusive, the newspaper changed its name to the "East Suffolk Gazette and Beccles and Bungay Weekly News".
If anyone finds a relevant death listed in these transcriptions, it would be a good idea to check for any other details that might come to hand. Deaths through accidents, or those resulting in an inquest, may have additional material in the newspaper. In addition, auctioneers' advertisements for sales relating to deceased estates can sometimes yield quite detailed lists of the late person's possessions.
From the issue of 11 June 1867 inclusive, the newspaper changed its name to the East Suffolk Gazette and Beccles and Bungay Weekly News.
