"CRETINGHAM, a parish in the hundred of Loes, in the county of Suffolk, 3½ miles S.E. of Debenham, and 9 N.W. of Woodbridge. It is situated on the river Deben. The living is a vicarage* in the diocese of Norwich, value £173, in the patronage of the lord chancellor. The church, dedicated to St. Andrew, is a Gothic edifice, consisting of S. porch, chancel, nave, and tower. The charities, comprising the town lands, amount to £51 per annum. Cretingham Rookery, the seat of N. Barthropp, Esq., is a fine mansion."
