Ashwick

"ASHWICK, a parish in the hundred of Kilmersdon, in the county of Somerset, 3 miles to the N.E. of Shepton Mallet; Bath is its post town. It is situated on the Fosse Way, and includes the hamlet of Oakhill. Coal mines are worked here, and there is an extensive brewery. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £113, in the patronage of the Vicar of Kilmersdon. The church is dedicated to St. James. There are chapels belonging to the Presbyterians and Wesleyan Methodists. The parochial charities including an endowment of £5 to a school, amount to £13 a year. Ashwick Grove is the principal residence. Masbury Castle, a Roman camp with a double rampart, is near the Fosse Way, south-westward of the village."
