"BATCOMBE, a parish in the hundred of Whitstone, in the county of Somerset, 3 miles to the N. of Bruton. It is situated in a pleasant hilly country, and commands, from Portway and Walter's Hill, extensive and beautiful prospects. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Bath and Wells, of the value, with the curacy of Upton-Noble, which is annexed to it, of £690, in the patronage of the Rev. J. Brown, the incumbent.
