"CHEDDON-FITZPAINE, a parish in the hundred of Taunton, in the county of Somerset, 2 miles N.E. of Taunton. The village is situated near the Bristol and Exeter railway, the Taunton and Bridgwater canal, and the river Tone. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £584, in the patronage of J. A. Watre, Esq. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is a beautiful edifice, and was restored in 1861. The charities amount to about £7 10s. per annum. Here is a school for both sexes. The lord of the manor is John H. Warre, Esq."
