North Perrot

"NORTH PERROTT, a parish in the hundred of Houndsborough, county Somerset, 2½ miles E. of Crewkerne, its railway station and post town, and 6 S.W. of Yeovil. The village, which is of small extent, is situated near the river Parret, which separates it from Dorsetshire. It is chiefly agricultural, but the manufacture of sail cloth and twine are carried on to a small extent. The soil consists of sand and clay. The Exeter section of the Great Western railway passes in the vicinity. The tithes have been commuted for a rent-charge of £300, and the glebe comprises 44 acres. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £272. The church, dedicated to St. Martin, is a cruciform structure, with a tower supported by four arches and containing a clock and five bells. It contains an altar-piece by Westmacott, in alto relievo, representing the Last Supper, after Leonardo da Vinci. William Hoskins, Esq., is lord of the manor and principal landowner.
