"THORNE ST. MARGARET, a parish in the hundred of Milverton, county Somerset, 3 miles W. of Wellington, its post town, and 5½ S. of Wivelscombe. The village is situated between the river Tone and the Bristol and Exeter railway. The soil is sandy, with a subsoil of limestone and sandstone. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Bath and Wells, value £113, in the patronage of the archdeaconry of Taunton. The church, dedicated to St. Margaret, is an ancient structure with a tower and three bells. J. C. Luxmore, Esq., is lord of the manor."
