"ELSTEAD, a parish in the hundred of Farnham, county Surrey, 4 miles W. of Godalming, its post town, and 5 S.E. of Farnham. The river Wey passes in the vicinity. Worsted is manufactured here.[Description(s) from The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland (1868)The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Winchester, value £78. The Independents have a chapel, and there are National and British schools for boys and girls."
