"CHORLTON, a chapelry in the parish of Eccleshall, in the northern division of the hundred of Pirehill, in the county of Stafford, 2 miles N. of the Standon railway station, 6 from Eccleshall, and 36 from Chester. It contains the townships of Chorlton Hill, and Stableford Bridge.

The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Lichfield, value £105, in the patronage of the bishop. The church, which was rebuilt in 1827, is dedicated to St. Lawrence. Sir Henry Broughton, Bart., owner of the greater portion of the land, is lord of the manor."
