ECCLESHALL

"ASPLEY, a township in the parish of Eccleshall, and hundred of Pirehill, in the county of Stafford, 3 miles from Eccleshall. The London and North Western railway passes near it."

"BROMLEY, a township in the parish of Eccleshall, hundred of Pirehill, in the county of Stafford, not far from Eccleshall."

"BROUGHTON, a township and chapelry in the parish of Eccleshall, hundred of Pirehill, in the county of Stafford, 6 miles to the N.W. of Eccleshall. It lies near the London and North-Western railway, which has a station at Standon, 4 miles to the W. of the village. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Lichfield, worth £129, in the gift of Sir H. D. Broughton, Bart. The church is a small building with a tower. The chief seats are Broughton Hall, an ancient mansion in the Elizabethan style, Sugnall Hall, Gerard's Bromley, and Charnes."

The principal residences are Walton Hall and Johnson Hall. The latter is situated in a park. Cotmere is a considerable lake, well stocked with fish, and covering an area of 40 acres."
