HANBURY

 

"COTON, a township in the parish of Hanbury, northern division of the hundred of Offlow, in the county of Stafford, 1 mile N. of Hanbury. It is situated near the river Dove. Coton Hall, the seat of J. Burtt, Esq., is a pleasantly situated mansion. Near here is the viaduct of the North Staffordshire line, which is 693 feet long, and 114 feet high."

"DRAYCOTT-IN-THE-CLAY, a township in the parish of Hanbury, N. division of the hundred of Offlow, in the county of Stafford, 5 miles S.E. of Uttoxeter, 1 mile N.W. of Hanbury, its post town, and 2 miles S. of Sudbury station. It is situated near the river Dove, and contains the townships of Moreton and Stubby Lane. The Wesleyans have a chapel, and there is a school for both sexes, which is also licensed for Divine service."

"FAULD, a township in the parish of Hanbury, N. division of the hundred of Offlow, county Stafford, 1½ mile W. of Tutbury. The river Dove flows through the township. There are a few farmhouses."
