"HIGH OFFLEY, a parish in the hundred of Pirehill, county Stafford, 4 miles S.W. of Eccleshall, its post town. The village, which is of small extent, is situated on the Liverpool and Birmingham canal, and is wholly agricultural. The parish comprises the hamlets of Shebdon and Woodseaves. The impropriation belongs to Sir Thomas Broughton.

The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Lichfield, value £313, in the patronage of the bishop. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, is an ancient structure containing monuments of the Skrymsher family, also one to the late Bishop Ryder, erected in 1851 at the expense of the present vicar. The parochial charities produce about £16 per annum. Miss T. Hinckes, of Tettenhall, is lady of the manor.
