"SOUTHAM, a parish, post, and small market town in the Southam division of the hundred of Knightlow, county Warwick, 10 miles S.E. of Warwick. At Southam-road is a station on the Oxford and Rugby railway. The town is situated on the river Stowe, a branch of the Ichene, here crossed by a bridge of two arches. It consists of two streets of well-built houses, and is a polling-place for South Warwickshire. It is mentioned in Domesday Book as Sucham, or Suthan, and had anciently a mint."
