54. GREAT THORNTON STREET. Primitive Methodist chapel built in 1849 to rival nearby Wesleyan Chapel. Designed by William Sissons in Italianate style. Cost £5,178. Burnt down in 1856 and subsequently rebuilt with altered facade. Seating for 900. Closed 1937 and damaged by bombing in 1941 and subsequently demolished. [The Lost Churches and Chapels of Hull]
