The Ancient Parish of NORTH OTTERINGTON

"NORTH OTTERINGTON, a parish in the wapentake and liberty of Allertonshire; 2½ miles S. of Northallerton. The church is dedicated to St. Michael; the living is a vicarage, in the patronage Christ Church College Oxford, of which the Rev. T. H. Fowlds, A. M. is the incumbent. Pop. 44.""CROSBY HALL, (the seat of the Rev. William Dent) in the township of Thornton- le-beans, and parish of North-Otterington; 2¼ miles from Northallerton, 7½ from Thirsk. Now (2008) named Old Hall Farm."
"PASTURE HOUSE, a farm house in the township of Thornton-le-beans, and parish of North-Otterington; 2½ miles ESE. of North Otterington."

"THORNTON LE MOOR, in the parish of North Otterington. and wapentake of Birdforth; 2¼ miles ESE. of North Otterington, 5 miles NW. of Thirsk. Here was formerly a Chapel of Ease, which has been suffered to go to ruin, and the only part now standing has been converted into a village school, without endowment. Population, 204. The principal inhabitants are: Beckett Thomas, Esq. Bramley Thomas, yeoman Burton John, schoolmaster Coates Joseph, yeoman Watson Thomas, yeoman Wilson George, gentleman"
