"BALLYCLUG, a parish in the barony of Lower Antrim, in the county of Antrim, province of Ulster, Ireland, 10 miles to the N. of Antrim. It lies in a fertile and cultivated district, to the E. of the Main Water, and includes part of the town of Ballymena. The district formerly belonged to the O'Haras. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Down, Connor, and Dromore, of the value, with the curacy of Kirkinriola, of £212, in the patronage of the bishop. The Roman Catholic chapel, erected in 1810, is situated at Crebilly, near the ancient seat of the O'Haras, which has been rebuilt. There are several schools, and a charity of £20 per annum., bequeathed by Col. O'Hara in 1759, for the benefit of the poor. The parish has many remains of ancient structures, Druidical, ecclesiastical, and military. Courts leet and baron are held annually, and a manorial court for the district of " Kearte "is held monthly by the seneschal. Fairs for horses and cattle are held on the 26th June and the 21st August."
