"KILMORE, a parish and village in the baronies of Upper Loughtee and Clanmahon, county Cavan, province of Ulster, Ireland, 4 miles S.W. of Cavan, its post town. It is 7 miles long by 3 broad, and contains the villages of Ballinagh and Crossdoney. The surface lies along the Erne, and includes part of Lough Oughter. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Kilmore, value with two others, £870, in the patronage of the crown. There are two churches, two Roman Catholic chapels, three Sunday and thirteen daily schools. Near the village stands the palace of the Bishop of Kilmore. Lismore Lodge is another seat. At Cloughoughter Castle died Bishop Bedell in 1641. The village was anciently called Cella Magna Death-reib, and had a monastery, according to some authorities, founded in the 6th century by St. Columb; its site is alleged to have been on Trinity Island, in Lough Oughter. The diocese of Kilmore is in the ecclesiastical province of Armagh. It was founded early in the 13th century, and was subsequently joined to Elphin and Ardagh. It extends over the county of Cavan, about three-quarters of Leitrim, and parts of Meath and Fermanagh, including 47 benefices, and 30 'curacies. The gross value of the see is £6,340. The Roman Catholic diocese is in the province of Armagh, and comprises 43 parishes. The episcopal residence is at Cavan."

"BELLANANAGH, a village in the parish of Kilmore, and barony of Clanmahon, in the county of Cavan, province of Ulster, Ireland, 4 miles to the S.W. of Cavan. There is a small market-house in the village. Petty sessions are held here. A market is held on Saturday, and fairs on the 31st March, the 6th June, the 6th August, the 3rd October, and the 21st December."

"CROSSDONEY, a postal village in the parish of Kilmore, barony of Clanmahon, in the county of Cavan, province of Ulster, Ireland, 1 mile N.W. of Bellananagh. It is situated on the road from Dublin to Killeshandra, near the river Erne. The dispensary is within the Cavan Poor-law Union. The scenery of the surrounding locality is strikingly beautiful, and numerous seats adorn the neighbourhood. Fairs axe held on the 5th April, 27th May, 20th August, and 17th November."
