Ruins, Knockbride, Church of Ireland

Hide

The old church of Knockbride stands on a rocky mound beside a lake. It was abandoned in 1825. It has large rectangular windows, which do not look older than the 17th century, though tradition says that the east wall is pre-Reformation. The foundation of the north wall, however, cannot have been made for the present church. The walls contain a few punch-dressed stones, and above the west door are stones from a two-light window with plain chamfer, probably of the 15th or 16th century.
