In 1868, the parish of Kilnoe contained the following places:

"KILNOE, a parish in the barony of Upper Tulla, county Clare, province of Munster, Ireland, 3 miles W.S.W. of Scarriff. Killaloe is its post town. It is 6 miles long by 3 broad. The surface is rather mountainous, and comprises part of several loughs, including Lough O'Grady. The road from Scariff to Ennis traverses the interior. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Killaloe, value with Kilseily, £235, in the patronage of the bishop. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Tomgrany. There are two day schools. Coolreath and Kilgorey are the principal seats. There are ruins of an old castle near the former seat."
