The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Ardfield contained the following places:

"ARDFIELD, a parish in the barony of Ibane and Barryroe, in the county of Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 4 miles to the S. of Clonakilty. It occupies the south-eastern part of the peninsula, between the bays of Clonakilty and Ross. The soil is good, and well cultivated. Copper ore has been found. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Cork, Cloyne, and Ross, value £96, patron the bishop. The church is a ruin, and stands on the highest ground in the parish. Near Dunny Cove is a ruined castle."

"GALLEYHEAD, in the parish of Ardfield, barony of Ibane and Barryroe, county Cork, province of Munster, Ireland. It forms the head of a peninsula running between the bays of Ross and Clonakilty"
