The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Caheragh contained the following places:

"CAHERAGH, a parish in the western division of the barony of Carbery West, in the county of Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 7 miles to the S.E. of Bantry. It lies near the coast, in a district of moorland and bog, on the banks of the river Ilen, and was the site of a castle, the seat of the M'Carthys, of which some ruins remain. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Cork, Ross, and Cloyne, worth £564, in the gift of the bishop. The parish extends over an area of 23,526 acres,"
