The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kilbonane contained the following places:

"KILBONANE, a parish in the barony of East Muskerry, county Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 6 miles N.W. of Bandon, its post town. It is 2.'I miles long by 2 broad. The greater part of the surface consists of good land; the remainder is boggy waste. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Cork, value £162, in the patronage of the bishop. The church was built in 1834. The parish is part of the Roman Catholic district of Kilmurry. -There are parochial and several private schools. Lodge, Aherlow, and New Grove are the principal residences. Remains of the old church are still visible. Limestone is quarried at Aherlow."
