The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Rathclarin contained the following places:

"RATHCLARIN, a parish in the barony of East Carbery, county Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 4½ miles S.E. of Bandon, its post town. The surface extends along the N. shore of Court McSherry Bay. The Arigadeen rivulet flows through the interior. The soil is generally fertile. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Cork, value £431, in the patronage of the bishop. The church was restored in 1835. The Roman Catholic chapel is the head of a district. There are National schools, besides two or three other public, private, day, and Sunday schools. Among the residences are Gortnahorna and Glenville. Near the village are ruins of a church, founded at the close of the 13th century by the Knights Templars."

"KILBRITTAIN, a village in the parish of Rathclarin, barony of East Carbery, county Cork, province of Munster, Ireland. There is a police station in the neighbourhood. A turkey fair is held on the 22nd November."
