The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Rostellan contained the following places:

"ROSTELLAN, a parish in the barony of Imokilly, county Cork, province of Munster, Ireland, 3 miles S.W. of Cloyne, its post town. It extends along the eastern side of Cork Harbour. The soil is mostly good. The living is a rectory and vicarage in the diocese of Cloyne, value £216, in the patronage of the crown. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Aghada. There are a parochial and three private schools. Rostellan Castle in this parish was the seat of the Marquis of Thomond. There is a holy well in the vicinity held in great veneration by the poor people."
