In 1868, the parish of Ballyhalbert contained the following places:

"BALLYHALBERT, a parish in the barony of Ards, in the county of Down, province of Ulster, Ireland, 8 miles to the N.E. of Portaferry. It is situated on the coast, and is a coastguard station. The inhabitants are mostly fishermen. The living is a vicarage united with that of St. Andrew's, in the diocese of Down, Connor, and Dromore. The Presbyterians have a chapel here."
