In 1868, the parish of Bright contained the following places:

"BRIGHT, a parish in the barony of Lecale, in the county of Down, province of Ulster, Ireland, 3 miles to the S. of Downpatrick. It is situated in a fertile and cultivated district, and was the site of a castle and an abbey. The latter, called the Abbey of Erynagh, was founded about 1127, and was destroyed about 60 years afterwards by De Courcy. There are remains of both buildings. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Down, Connor, and Dromore, of the value of £326, in the patronage of the crown. The church, which stands on a hill, was built in 1745, and is in the Grecian style of architecture. The chief seat is Oakley, a handsome mansion in well-wooded grounds."
