The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Clonmethan contained the following places:

"CLONMETHAN, a parish in the barony of Balrothery, in the county of Dublin, province of Leinster, Ireland, 6 miles N.W. of Swords, and 8 from Dublin. The surface consists of good land, with limestone subsoil. It contains the village of Oldtown. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Dublin, value with Ballymacdun, Ballyboghill, Palmerstown, and Westpalstown, £494, in the patronage of the bishop. The church is of modern date, and was built principally by means of a loan from the late Board of First Fruits. There are Roman Catholic chapels in the two first named sections of the benefice, and another united to that of Killossory; there are also four schools within this parish."

"OLDTOWN, a post-office village in the parish of Clonmethan, barony of West Balrothery, county Dublin, province of Leinster, Ireland, 4 miles S.W. of Naul. It is situated on the road from Kilsallagan. There is a Roman Catholic chapel. The parish church stands near the village. Here is also a dispensary within the Balrothery Poor-law Union. There are also several private seats of this name in various parts of Ireland."
