The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Derryvullan contained the following places:

"DERRYVULLAN, (or Derryvolan), a parish in the baronies of Lurg and Tirkennedy, in the county of Fermanagh, province of Ulster, Ireland, 3 miles N.W. of Bellinamallard, on the road from Enniskillin, its post town, to Kesh. It lies along the eastern and lower bend of lower Lough Erne. The soil is of second-rate quality, but gradually improving. The living is a rectory and vicarage in the diocese of Clogher, value £1,093, in the patronage of Trinity College, Dublin. The church, situated at Irvinstown, is an old building. There is also a chapel-of-ease at the same place. There are Roman Catholic chapels at Whitehill and Lessaroe, which are united, and places of worship for Methodists and Wesleyans. There are several day and one Sunday school; three of which are assisted by the National Board, one by the Society for Discountenancing Vice, and two by the London Hibernian Society. The principal residences are Castle Archdall, Rusfad, Riversdale, and Doraville.

"LISNARRICK, a village in the parish of Derryvullan, in the barony of Lurg, county Fermanagh, province of Ulster, Ireland, 3 miles S.E. of Kesh. It is situated on the road from Pettegoe to Enniskillen. The demesne of Castle-Archdall is the most attractive feature of the locality. Fairs are held on the 12th and 22nd January, 22nd February, 22nd March, 5th April, 9th and 23rd May, 22nd June, 22nd July, and 15th October, principally for the sale of live stock."

"LOWTHERSTOWN, (or Irvinestown), a small post and market town in the parish of Derryvullan, in the barony of Lurg, county Fermanagh, province of Ulster, Ireland, 8 miles N. of Enniskillen, and 112 from Dublin. It is a station on the Irish and North-Western railway. It is situated on the road from Enniskillen to Pettigo, and on the right bank of Lough Erne. It is a small but improving place, and is the head of a Poor-law Union, lying within the counties of Fermanagh, Tyrone, and Donegal. Necarne, the seat of the D'Arcys, is in the vicinity. Fairs are held on the 8th of every month.
