In 1868, the parish of Clonkeen contained the following places:

"CLONKEEN, (or Clonkeen-kerrill), a parish in the barony of Tiaquin, in the county of Galway, province of Connaught, Ireland, 8 miles from Athenry. The soil is good, but the surface rather boggy. It lies along the banks of the river Moyne. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Clonfert, value with Ballymacward, £250, in the patronage of Trinity College, Dublin. Woodlawn is the post town. In 1435 the church was made a Franciscan Abbey under the Mall-Kerrill family. At Gorteen is the Roman Catholic chapel within the above union, and four day schools.
