In 1868, the parish of Killaan contained the following places:

"KILLAAN, (or Killane), a parish in the baronies of Kilconnell and Loughrea, county Galway, province of Connaught, Ireland, 4 miles S.W. of Kilconnell, its post town. It is 5 miles long by 3 broad. The upper part of the river Carnamart drains the surface in the W. The parish is traversed by the road from Ballinasloe to Galway. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Clonfert, joined with Kilconnell, £777. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Bullane. There are one National and two other day schools. Killaan House and Woodlawn are the principal residences. The dispensary is within the Ballinasloe Poor-law Union.
