In 1868, the parish of Killeroran contained the following places:

"KILLERORAN, (or Killararan), a parish in the barony of Killian, county Galway, province of Connaught, Ireland, 7 miles N.E. of Ahascragh, containing Ballygar, its post town. The parish is 6 miles long by 3 broad. The surface includes a large proportion of bog, lying between the rivers Suck and Shivan. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Elphin, value with Killyon, £120, in the patronage of the bishop. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to that of Killyon. There are two hedge-schools. Riversdale is the principal residence.
