In 1868, the parish of Killower contained the following places:

"KILLOWER, a parish in the barony of Clare, county Galway, province of Connaught, Ireland, 3 miles W. of Tuam, its post town. The parish is 2 miles long by 1 mile broad. It has a varied surface, with a proportion of bog. The interior is traversed by the road from Tuam to Headford. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Tuam, value with Headford, £834, in the patronage of the bishop. There is a day school. Near the present seat of Castle Hackett are the ruins of the ancient castle. Silane is another residence."
