In 1868, the parish of Kilmoylan contained the following places:

"KILMOYLAN, a parish in the barony of Clare, county Galway, province of Connaught, Ireland, 6 miles S. of Tuam. Rathkeale is its post town. It is about 5 miles square, and contains the villages of Anbally and Polsillagh. The surface is low, and the soil indifferent. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Tuam, value with Moylough, £658, in the patronage of the bishop. Corrofin is the principal seat. There are remains of a castle at Anbally, also ruins of two other castles in the parish."

"ANBALLY, a village in the parish of Kilmoylan, and barony of Clare, in the county of Galway, province of Connaught, Ireland, 12 miles to the N.E. of Galway. There are remains of an old castle, and an intermitting spring"

"POLSILLAGH, a village in the parish of Kilmoylan, barony of Clare, county Galway, province of Connaught, Ireland, 7 miles N. of Athenry. It is situated in a boggy and barren district, near the road from Athenry to Tuam."
