In 1868, the parish of Lackagh contained the following places:

"LACKAGH, a parish in the barony of Clare, county Galway, province of Connaught, Ireland, 7 miles N.E. of Galway, its post town. It is 4½ miles long and the same broad in some places. The surface is flat, and the soil poor. Part of Turloughmore and the river Clare are within the limits. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Tuam, value with Annaghdown, £323, in the patronage of the bishop. There are a Roman Catholic chapel and four private day schools. Deer-Park Lodge is the principal residence. In 1504 Knocktuadh, in this parish, was the scene of a battle between the Earl of Kildare and Mac William of Clanricarde and others, when the latter were defeated with much bloodshed."
