In 1868, the parish of Tynagh contained the following places:

"TYNAGH, a parish and post town in the baronies of Leitrim and Longford, county Galway, province of Connaught, Ireland, 5 miles W.N.W. of Portumna. The parish is crossed by the road from Portumna to Loughrea. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Clonfert, joined to Doneira. The church was built in 1702. There are a Roman Catholic chapel, one public and three private schools. The principal residences are Pallas, Flower Hill, and Killeen. Here are the ruins of Pallas Castle, formerly a monastic establishment founded by Birmingham, Baron of Athenry. Lead in small veins is found. Fairs are held on 27th March, 31st August, and 11th December."
