In 1868, the parish of Currans contained the following places:

"CURRANS, a parish and village in the baronies of Magunihy and Trughanacmy, in the county of Kerry, province of Munster, Ireland, 5 miles W. of Castle Island. Milltown, in Kerry, is its post town. It is situated on the river Maine. The surface is mountainous and boggy, and the soil inferior. The living is divided into sections by the river. The Magunihy section is united to Kiltallagh, in the diocese of Ardfert and Aghadoe, value £410, in the patronage of the crown. The Trughanacmy portion is part of the benefice of Ballymacelligot in the same diocese, value £371, in the patronage of William Crosbie, Esq. Here is a Roman Catholic chapel, and a hedge school. The village stands on the S. bank of the Maine. Riverville and Curranas House are the chief seats of the neighbourhood. Fairs are held on the 21st August and 29th October.
