In 1868, the parish of Galey contained the following places:

"GALEY, a parish in the barony of Iraghticonnor, county Kerry, province of Munster, Ireland, 2 miles N.W. of Listowel, its post town. It lies along the banks of the river Galey, which rises in county Limerick, near Newcastle, and falls into the river Feale near its confluence with the Brick. The surface includes a large proportion of bog and waste land. The soil is good. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Ardfert and Aghadoe, value with Listowel, £335. Here are two private clay schools. In the Roman Catholic arrangement it is divided between the districts of Listowel and Lisseltin."

"GUNSBOROUGH, a village in the parish of Galey, barony of Iraghticonner, county Kerry, province of Munster, Ireland, 3 miles N.W. of Listowel. Here is a dispensary within the Listowel Poor-law Union. Gunsborough House is the neighbouring seat."
