In 1868, the parish of Kilnanare contained the following places:

"KILNANARE, (or Killanear), a parish in the barony of Magunihy, county Kerry, province of Munster, Ireland, 3 miles N.E. of Milltown, its post town. It is 3 miles long by 2 broad. The church is in ruins. There are three day schools.
