In 1868, the parish of Kilshenane contained the following places:

"KILSHENANE, a parish in the barony of Clanmaurice, county Kerry, province of Munster, Ireland, 2 miles S.E. of Listowel, its post town. The surface is hilly, and a great part unenclosed. Part of the Knockandirit Mountain is within the limits. The river Feale flows in the vicinity. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Ardfert and Aghadoe, value with Kilflyn, £271. Coal exists, but is not worked.
