The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Ardree contained the following places:

"ARDREE, (or Ardrie), a parish in the barony of Kilkea and Moone, in the county of Kildare, province of Leinster, Ireland, close to Athy. It is situated on the east bank of the river Barrow, and was formerly a possession of the monastery of St. Thomas, Dublin. The living is a vicarage forming part of the union of Athy, in the diocese of Dublin, Glendalagh, and Kildare. A Danish fort existed here, of which there are still remains.
