In 1868, the parish of Ballyshannon contained the following places:"BALLYSHANNON, a parish in the baronies of East and West Offaly, in the county of Kildare, province of Leinster, Ireland, 5 miles to the S.E. of Kildare. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Dublin, Glendalagh, and Kildare, of the value, with the rectory of Kilrush, of £360, in the gift of the crown and the archbishop in turn.
