The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Cadamstown contained the following places:

"CADAMSTOWN, a parish in the barony of Carbury, in the county of Kildare, province of Leinster, Ireland, 12 miles to the N. of Robertstown. The living is a vicarage forming part of the union of Castle-Carbury, in the diocese of Dublin, Glendalagh, and Kildare. The principal seat is Balyna House, the residence of the Right Hon. R. M. O'Ferrall."

"JOHNSTOWN-BRIDGE, a village in the parish of Cadamstown, barony of Carbury, county Kildare, province of Leinster, Ireland, 6½ miles N.W. of Kilcock. It is situated on the Dublin and Tullamore road. The village contains a police station and a dispensary. There is a Roman Catholic chapel. Metcalfe Park and Johnstown Bridge are the principal seats. This village was formerly a place of some importance, and had a weekly market. An old cross standing here marks the site of an abbey. Fairs are held in March, May, October, and December."
