The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Downings contained the following places:

"DOWNINGS, a parish in the barony of Clane, in the county of Kildare, province of Leinster, Ireland, 5 miles N.W. of Naas, its post town. It is situated on the road from thence to Edenderry. The surface is flat and boggy. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Kildare, value with Carragh, £153, in the patronage of the bishop. There are some ruins of the parish church. The Grand canal passes through the parish, and is crossed by two bridges. The chief seats are Downings House and Woodville."
