The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Kilmeage contained the following places:

"KILMEAGE, (or Kilmaogue), a parish and post-office village in the baronies of Connell and East Offaly, county Kildare, province of Leinster, Ireland, containing the village of Robertstown. The parish is 4 miles square. It includes a large portion of the bog of Allen. The surface is flat, and is traversed by the Grand canal. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Kildare, value with two others, £344, in the patronage of the bishop. In the village is a church, and a Roman Catholic chapel united to that of Milltown. There is a Sunday-school and seven day schools.

"CLONKEEN, a hamlet in the parish of Kilmeage, barony of Carbury, in the county of Kildare, province of Leinster, Ireland, 9 miles N.W. of Robertstown."

"ROBERTSTOWN, a small market and post town in the parish of Kilmeage, barony of Connell, county Kildare, province of Leinster, Ireland, 7 miles N. of Kildare. It is situated on the banks of the Grand canal, and is a packet station from Dublin. It contains a police station and a dispensary. Wednesday is market day. Fairs are held at intervals."
