The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Tankardstown contained the following places:

"TANKARDSTOWN, a parish partly in the barony of Ballyadams, Queen's County, and partly in the baronies of Narragh and Kilkea, county Kildare, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles S.E. of Athy, its post town. The land is generally well cultivated. The road from Ashby and the river Barrow traverse the interior. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Dublin, value with Athy £420, in the patronage of the archbishop. The church is in ruins. There are a National and a private school. Limestone is quarried here."
