The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Aghaviller contained the following places:

"AGHAVILLER, (or Aughaviller), a parish in the barony of Knocktopher, in the county of Kilkenny, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles to the S.W. of Knocktopher. It contains the villages of Boolyglass and Hugginstown. A large part of the parish is moorland. There is a quarry of freestone. The living is a rectory joined with that of Knocktopher, in the diocese of Ossory, Ferns, and Leighlin, Castle Morris is the principal seat. Part of a round tower remains near this mansion, almost on the spot where the old church stood.

"HUGGINSTOWN, a village in the parish of Aghaviller, barony of Knocktopher, county Kilkenny, province of Leinster, Ireland, 3 miles S.W. of Knocktopher. Here are a Roman Catholic chapel and a police station."

"NEWMARKET, a village in the parish of Aghaviller, barony of Knocktopher, county Kilkenny, province of Leinster, Ireland, near Higginstown. A pillar tower stands near the village. Fairs are held on Easter-Monday."
