The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Listerlin contained the following places:

"LISTERLIN, a parish in the barony of Ida and Knocktopher, county Kilkenny, province of Leinster, Ireland, 5 miles S. of Innistioge. New Ross is its post town. It is 4 miles long, and its extreme breadth is 2½ miles. The surface is mountainous. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Ossory, value £213, in the patronage of the bishop. The church was built at the close of the 18th century by means of a gift from the late Board of First Fruits. The Roman Catholic chapel is united to those of Rosbercon and Dysertmoon. There is a day school; also remains of a Danish fort, and a cave. There is a police station in the parish.
