The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

In 1868, the parish of Bordwell contained the following places:

"BORDWELL, a parish in the baronies of Clandonagh and Clarmallagh, in Queen's County, province of Leinster, Ireland, 4 miles to the N.E. of Rathdowny. It contains Lough Grantstown and a small tract of bog. Limestone is found here. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Ossory, Ferns, and Leighlin, value £119, in the patronage of the bishop of the diocese. The .church is decayed. Two castles formerly stood in this parish, of which there are still remains. Near the ruins of Grantstown Castle is Grantstown House."
